Gala Pita Gala is a stunning pinnacle dive site featuring multiple depth levels — from 10 meters at its shallowest point to a maximum depth of 25 meters. This site is teeming with marine life, attracting large schools of fish and offering incredible biodiversity throughout the dive. Perfect for both experienced and intermediate divers, Gala Pita Gala combines vibrant life, dramatic underwater structure, and great visibility for an unforgettable dive experience.
The S.S. Orestes is a historic British steam-powered shipwreck dating back to 1876. Resting between 17 to 25 meters, this fascinating wreck still showcases its boiler, propeller, and several recognizable structures — making it a favorite among wreck enthusiasts. Surrounded by sandy seabed, the Orestes stands out as a vibrant oasis of marine life. You’ll often encounter stingrays, various ray species, and large schools of fish that have made this wreck their permanent home. This dive offers a perfect blend of history, marine biodiversity, and exploration, making it one of Unawatuna’s must-see dive sites.
The Rangoon is a British wooden sailing shipwreck lying between 20 and 32 meters deep. Once a merchant vessel, it was carrying Chinese porcelain dishes when it sank — and divers can still spot fragments of these historic artifacts scattered around the site. Though much of the wooden structure has decayed over time, the wreck remains a beautiful deep dive, surrounded by sand and bustling with marine life such as rays, reef fish, and small schools. A dive at the Rangoon offers a unique mix of history, mystery, and marine biodiversity — perfect for those who love exploring Sri Lanka’s underwater heritage.
